IB Magnet
Personal Project
An IB Middle Years Programme requires that all sophomores complete a Personal Project--similar to other graduation projects, i-search, etc. This project is completed through students' English 10 classes, and each staff member is required to participate as a Supervisor and later presentation evaluator. Students explore research topics in the library based on the different IB Areas of Interaction, research using quality sources, cite and share their work in NoodleTools, and communicate their final project and product in a formal presentation for small groups.

Teachers who advise students in completing the Extended Essay may not have completed this level of academic research and writing in many years. These professional development sessions were designed to help get them ready to advise students as they develop their Extended Essays. They have support through the coordinator, the librarian and support online.
We help teachers by showing trends in the Extended Essay, guiding them through the right kind of topic, and setting them up in NoodleTools so they can communicate online with their advisees and guide them through source selection. |
Extended Essay
The Extended Essay is one of the core requirements of the Diploma Programme. Students write a 4000 word, academic, discipline-specific essay that is externally assessed. They work with an advisor and do some work during their Theory of Knowledge class must most work is independent.
Early in the junior year, students complete an interest inventory to start thinking about the EE and then all juniors are pulled together to get more specific about topics. Click here for a lesson helping students choose an appropriate topic. Common Core Connections:
